Things you should do :
Before a recording session there are few things that can be done to make life easier for you (the artist) and the producer (the guy who's going to record you)
1 - Practice, Practice, Practice, this will make your job much easier, especially with complex parts that need to be very accurate.
2 – Prepare notes and bring them along, ideas that you think should be included or would work best for certain parts that would represent your ideas best, you'll be surprised how great it is to have an idea thrown in and used correctly to make the recording sound fuller.
3 – Bring in a copy of the Lyrics for the Producer to use as a reference, this is a great idea when doing vocal tracking and it will help the producer so much in being on the same page “literally”.
4 – Have a band meeting before hand and discuss everything, from who's playing what to when the recording will take place and what instruments will be put down first to the money issues and having time to eat and sleep in between and anything else that's of concern , that way you're all aware of what's happening and when it's happening so everyon'e happy with the final result. 5 – Finally, have Plenty of sleep the night before your recording schedule and have a good breakfast before you come in , you'll be shocked noticing how well you'll play when you feel great, Avoid drinking heavily before hand to minimize hangover effect and just keep the creative thinking flowing, no idea is a bad idea , it's just that some serve the song better than other , and at the end of the day that's what it's all about , what's best for the music, as much as we're you're friends and love to just talk about stuff , it is still your business and ours , and professionalism is the key.
